The story of how Polo's eyes were healed

There was something wrong with Polo's eyes.

I've written before in this blog that Polo's eyes were experiencing some abnormalities.(Link)。

※The link is to my previous blog, but please avoid viewing videos in the blog if you are not comfortable with it!

The first thing that I thought was strange was, 'Huh? Are my eyes redder than usual?" That's what I thought. They looked like they were bloodshot. Also, when I blinked, I could see blinking membranes.

I learned the term "blink film" from a doctor. When I took Polo to see the doctor, the doctor said it was common in reptiles and nothing to worry about, but not only did he have blinking membranes, but he would often stop moving with his eyes shut.

In addition, he wouldn't eat his food, so I could only assume that he was getting weaker.

Even so, I remember feeling very uneasy as Polo kept his eyes closed for the time being.

Are there any problems in the cage?

Is the environment in the cage appropriate? I also did a lot of research. I have been very grateful for the "Futoago Daihyakka". As I researched, I wondered if the ultraviolet rays from the basking light might be damaging their eyes. I thought.

I changed my basking light to the following lamp. This is not completely UV free, but its produce less UV than the lamps I was using at the time.

Polo's basking light

It wasn't until about two weeks after we changed the lights that Polo's eyes started to get better. Of course, we can't attribute this to the basking light.

Of course, it's also possible that you hurt your eye with a tree or something, or that dust got into your eye. It's also possible that the injury healed slowly thanks to the eye drops.

Anyway, I was relieved to be able to open my eyes as usual.

After eyes recovered

Even after the eye healed, Polo continued to be listless for a while. He would often stay still under the cave or on the tree without moving. The doctor told us that reptiles recover slowly, so we decided to wait patiently.

After about two or three months, Polo started to regain his strength. Now she is eating well. Thank God!

Thank you for reading also today.
