Encounter with Polo

The first meeting Polo at the pet shop

It was about a year ago that I went to a reptile store, which I don't usually go to, just out of curiosity. At that time, I had no idea that I would be blogging about reptiles like I do now. It was there that I first encountered Polo, a rankin’s dragon.

It took about a month from the first time I saw Polo at a pet store and thought he was cute until he came to our house. Actually, it wasn't an instant decision to get Polo.

I had never kept reptiles before. And there was no one around me who kept reptiles. I was not familiar with reptiles at all.

When I was young, I used to play with lizards, geckos, newts, snakes, and frogs at my grandfather's house, but I never kept any of them. As a side note, we also had monkeys, deer and wild boars.

So, even if I wanted to get Polo, I had to learn what kind of environment I should set up, how big he would grow, how long he would live, and whether he was nocturnal. I learned a lot by asking people at the pet shop and reading various people's blogs about how long he live and whether he are nocturnal.

I was really ignorant

I'm really embarrassed to say that I didn't even know the difference between a Rankin's dragon and a bearded dragon, so when I saw a tiny tufted bearded dragon near the polo, I thought there were so many different colors. I didn't even know they were different kinds.

At the pet shop, there were many different kinds of dragons besides the pterodactyl, and I was allowed to touch most of them. Among them, I think Polo was the best because of my feeling. I thought the bearded dragon were cute, and I saw many Leopard gecko, but when I held Polo, I knew I liked him.

I decided to look into it, thinking that I shouldn't keep it until I felt I could. I decided that if it was going to be in someone else's hands while I was researching it, then I would just give it up as a lost cause.

I wondered if it would be safe in case I had to go on a long business trip. I checked for a pet hotel, but there was none in the neighborhood. But fortunately, my family was nearby and my parents and siblings liked reptiles, so they agreed to take care of him.

Reunited with Polo

After about two weeks of research, I went back to the pet shop to see Polo. Because I decided to get him. I thought I can prepare what I needed.

Is he here? Is he here? I remember how nervous I was. When he was still there, I asked the clerk, “Could I still get him?" and he said “Yes".

After I decided that Polo was coming, I started to buy the things I had been looking for. It took me two weeks to get the cage, basking light, dome, etc. I decided to change the layout gradually, so I started with the exact same layout I had at the pet store.

But I was very particular about the size of the cage; I wanted it to be 30cm x 60cm. And this cage took a long time. The cage I wanted was out of stock.

I'm glad I stuck with the results! Thank you so much Reptile Club!

It's been felt quite a long wait for the past two weeks, and I went to check on Polo only once. When I saw the kids saying, "He's cute, I want to keep him," I thought to myself, 'Sorry. It's our baby,' I thought.

When I went to pick him up, he was in the process of molting. His skin was peeling off and he looked so cute. I hadn't decided on a name for him, but seeing him like this, I decided to call him Polo. I decided to call him Polo.

Thank you for reading.
